Simple Rules

1. If a student makes a mistake while reciting, and the mistake was corrected by the judges, the student will lose one point.
2. Similarly, if a student makes a mistake and fails to adhere to Tajweed rules, and the mistake is corrected by the judges, the student will lose half a point.
3. No point will be deducted by the judges for any mistake in Tilawah, Hifdh or Tajweed if the student corrects himself/herself without the evaluator’s help. The judges will give the student a chance for self-correction.

Important NOTE: Judge’s decision will be last and final.

Round 1: Recite any one surah of your choice. A minimum of three (3) or more Ayahs.

• last 3 ayahs (284 – 286) of Surah Al-Baqarah

Round 2: Recite any one surah of your choice. A minimum of three or more Ayahs.

The speech Competition will consist of two rounds and three levels in each round.

1st Round (morning) has approximately 15 participants per level and will be conducted in the classrooms.  The three top scorers will be selected for competing in the second round.

2nd round (afternoon) will be in the main stage in the Auditorium. A winner and runner up will be selected from each level in the second round.

JUDGES

Each level and each round will have 3 judges. Each judge is to score the contestants in 3 categories, as described under “judging criteria” below. One judge is to be allocated for managing the timing and will be provided a stopwatch and buzzer for this purpose.  At the start of each session, the lead judge is to go over the logistics with the contestants, demonstrate the buzzer system, and take any questions that the participants may have.

ORDER OF PARTICIPANTS FOR ROUND 1

After explaining the process, participants should be asked to leave the room and queue up outside. Each participant will be asked to enter the room, one at a time, according to the list of names provided. Upon completion of their speech the participants are to remain seated in the room and observe the remaining speeches. There will be a proctor responsible for the room that should provide assistance in queuing and bringing the children into the room.

These rules are designed to prevent contestants getting an advantage from observing their peers’ speeches prior to delivering their own.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST FOR JUDGES

A conflict of interest can arise if a relative or student from a judge’s school appears as a contestant. If such situation is to arise during round 1, then the relevant judge must not score that participant. Instead, the average from the other 2 judges is to be used for that judges score, and should be marked clearly on the final scoring sheets submitted at the conclusion.

If a conflict of interest is to arise during round 2, the lead judge will substitute an alternative judge for the level in which a conflict arises.

TIMING RULES

Each Participant will be given 3 minutes total for the speech.
Every extra second used after 3 minutes will impact the results.

Bell # 1: Participant will start on the Buzz of the Bell.
Bell # 2: Warning Bell after 2.5 mins
Bell # 3: FINAL CALL, any extra seconds/minutes will impact
             the final score.

Participants, at their choosing, are entitled to continue up to the 3.5 min limit. Although timing over 3 min will negatively impact in the timing category, there may be a positive impact on other categories. No words uttered after 3.5 mins are to be considered.

Timing is to be assessed by one judge only. The other 2 judges do not need to be pre-occupied with this category.

Each judge is to score out of 10 marks in each category to arrive at a cumulative score for the 3 judges (out of 100) as follows. Note that the timing category is to be scored by one judge only (as this category should be non-subjective).

Alhamdulillah, this event has become one of the largest outdoor gatherings of Muslims in North America. This year the similar events are being held in ten metropolitan cities nationwide. We are extremely happy to Welcome You to this exciting and wholesome day at Six Flags.

The main purpose of the GMAD is to provide Islamic entertainment for the entire family while promoting the Islamic Heritage. The multi-ethnic GMAD brings Muslims of all walks of life to offer enjoyment in a fun-filled and healthy environment.

Alhamdulillah, this year, thousands of Muslims are celebrating at Six Flags, NJ, from as far as Michigan, Missouri, and more. We invite you to visit the Bazaar that features vendors from all over the Tri-State area. The quality ethnic halal food vendors have worked hard to make your GMAD a delicious one! All this of course, in addition to the regular thrills Six Flags Great Adventure is known for, including what is claimed to be the largest safari outside Africa. In addition to the drive-thru safari, tiger and dolphin shows, there will be special shows for children.

This historic event is organized entirely by the team of volunteers of ICNA-NJ and 877-Why-Islam. Please feel free to call upon our volunteers whenever you need any assistance, and pardon us for any inconvenience.

We dedicate this event to Br. Tariq Amanullah and Br. Mohammad Younis, two devoted and pioneer ICNA-NJ volunteers. Br. Tariq Amanullah, who worked on the 96th floor of WTC, Tower 2, passed away on 9/11. Br. Mohammad Younis, in-charge of food arrangements at previous GMAD events, passed away in 2007 on Eid day.

This event was first held in 1999.
